"Jeanne-Claude obituary"

She was one half of the environmental artist known to the world as Christo.

Jeanne-Claude was the wife and collaborator of one of my favorite artist, Christo. She died at the age of 74, from complications of a brain aneurysm on November 18, two days ago.

They worked together since they met, their relationship lasted 51 years, and during that time they completed 19 projects together, including "The Gates" in Central Park, New York, "The Valley Curtain" in Colorado, USA,"Pont Neuf" in Paris, France, and "Umbrellas" in Japan and California USA.

They are world wide known for their large scale wrapping projects, and for their interventions in natural landscapes, very close to the Land Art.

I chose this piece of news because, like I already said, Christo is one of my favorite artists in the world. I really like their works, I find it very interesting. They work in big sizes, most of their pieces of art are in large scale, covering wide spaces of natural landscapes and big public buildings, using fabric most of the time, and giving the color an important role. This aspects of their work are really important for me, because I would like to work with it too, and also with the idea of intervene and break into public spaces, and produce a change in the everyday visual landscape of people.

Once someone told me that sometimes when you cover something you can finally notice, and I'm agree with it. Sometimes you don't actually see what you need to see.

Well, I think this is a very sad news, and I really hope that Christo continue working by himself because I really enjoy his work.

Now, this couple of artist has become one.

I chose Lucas post about the Art Faculty...

Art Faculty

Well, I think that my faculty is a very nice place. I love studying here, I like the old construction, the classrooms and ESPECIALLY the yard. In every moment I feel pleasent being here. You can work and make all kind of things because the different workshops have all the necessary equipment. You can walk around all the faculty, you can see and learn a lot of techniques by visiting your friend's workshops. YOU CAN EVEN use TOOLS from OTHER CLASSES to make YOU'RE WORK MORE INTERESTING, you can mix techniques.PEOPLE in here are very pleasent too, everyone is relax; most of them are very sociable.In the yard you can take a rest when you want to; is a very quiet space, you can even get sleep for a while.Also there are partys in the yard and is a very good place to meet other students.This faculty is very small and I love that. It is far from all the others in the campus. Here everybody knows each other. We never have to scape from the tear gas bombs or that kind of problems.Some PEOPLE say that the infrastructure is very old, but I think they are just worry about the faculty's look. Every workshop works very well and I think that is what we must care about.Well, that is what I THINK about this comfortable place. I believe is a space I will never forget.Bye.

I'm agree with Lucas about almost everything he said. I do believe the Art Faculty is a very nice and comfortable place, and I think I will never forget it too. I'm agree with Lucas about the importance of knowing the work of our classmates, because as he said, you can use techniques from other disciplines and workshops to make you're own work more interesting. I also agree with him about the yard. It's a quiet place where you can sleep, work, get your lunch and even you can party there. I think that being far away from the other Faculties in the Campus is really good, because we have our own space, without too many people walking around and making noise. About the workshops there are some that have what you need to work, but also, there are some that haven't everything you need and they really need improvements.
In general I very much agree with my dear friend Lucas.

When I first met the Art Faculty I found it really ugly and empty, but as time passed by I started to fell in love with it.

I really like the environment, we have a large yard with a lot of trees that provide us shades and nice afternoons.

The condition of some workshops are really decadent, some of them get flooded when it rains and our pieces of work get damage. This is an annoying situation because we lose time of work.

Also, some of the workshops doesn't have the necessary safety measures, and I think this is very dangerous... some people can get badly hurt.

Definitely some workshops needs improvements.

Well, is not all that bad. There are some workshops that have what we need to work, and also are really nice, because, in some of them, we spend a lot of time, and I think is really important to have a nice place to work in.

Other aspect that I enjoy about the Art Faculty is that we can go into the differents workshops and see the other people's works. I think is very interesting, and usefull at the same time, to know what people from others specialties and disciplines are doing.

In general, I like it. It's very relaxed compared with other Faculties where people walk around very stressed, studying for their tests... It sounds rare, but I don't like that.

Well, It's really difficult to me to decide for just one place, because I would love to visit every single part of this world, and maybe some others worlds too... I think that whoever has done this world, It was made for see it. It's really important to know how other people live, to see others cultures, so that's why I always watch this tv shows about traveling...I can't help it.

But, If someone says to me "tell me one place and I will send you there", I think I would probably choose somewhere in Latin America, somewhere like Brazil. I like it because It's a huge country with a lot to see. In some aspects I think It's very similar to our country, but, at the same time, It's very different. I would like to visit it because I think It's one of the most interesting place in South America.

I would like to know people, maybe learn some of their language, to see their traditions, the Carnival, their beaches. Also I would like to know the "favelas", to see how they live, what they do for living... I know It's very dangerous, but I would go there with a lot of respect, because I imagine that they don't trust in people who came from other countries. Although, I think that what happens in the "favelas" is not that much different that what happens in some "poblaciones" here in Santiago.

Also, I think I would like to know the amazon jungle, but not so deep, because some insects and animals make me nervous, actually a lot of insects make me nervous.

I really would like to travel all the country, It's very big, so I suppose I would stay there like a month or maybe two so I can have the time to know the entire country.

Raindance film festival

17th independent film festival is going to take place in London, from 30 september to 11 october. This indie festival includes films with uncommon and original stories, and some of them with sex and violence in it. There are 75 feautes and 150 shortcuts on show, and there are also a few documentaries, one of wich is about the raise of acid house culture. The festival includes directors and films from USA, Japan and Great Britain.

This year the festival is also opening a "Raindance film cafe" to promote events during the festival.

I chose this news because I found it very interesting. I really like independent movies, directors shoot what they really feel, whithout thinking of sale the film, they just do wathever they want to do, and some of them are brilliant. This movies are just so honest and real, and at the same time can be entertaining and funny. I enjoy watching this kind of movies, it's like they open a totally creative and original world just for you... It's really great!

Assignment 2

Music for the Journey

I have been thinking on my favourite piece of technology and it's my

mp3 player, actually it's a mp4 player because you can see videos

and pictures, but I don't use that very much, I only listen to music.

I call it "flaipod" because it's not an ipod but it looks like one. I got

it last christmas, it was a gift from my cousin, it was the best gift

because the one that I had before stop working and no one knows

why, so I really needed one. I use it almost every day in my travel

to school and in my way back home.I really suffer when I run out

of battery because I have to spend my whole journey, one hour 

and a half, listen to my mind, it's not that bad, but sometimes I

get bored of my thoughs and I need to listen to music.

I'm not a big fan of technology, in fact I think I can live without it,

but I have to accept that it makes life a little easier, although I

think it's going to fast, and it will reach a point in which everything

will be made by machines and it will not be necessary to use our

hands, I really, deeply hope it never happens, I think I prefer to be

dead.

Assignment 1...

It's really hard to decide for just one subject, because this year we had the oportunity to choose our own subjects and I like it all of them, but I think one of my favourite is Screen-printing or Serigraphy. It's a printing technique in which you can use an  image, a picture and even a draw made by yourself, and you can print in a lots of materials, such as paper, plastics, textils, and the result is great! Francisco Sanfuentes is our teacher. I knew him last year because he was my draw class teacher. He is an excellent teacher, it shows he likes what he does, he's very nice, I like him. For me Serigraphy has not been a completely new experience, I knew a little about the technique before, last year I went into the workshop in our school and I learned some things.

So far, we had experiment with materials and It was great because you never know how is going to be the result, and also we had printed one image in black, honestly I didn't like much that image, but I hope do better works.

I like this subject because It's great what you can do with an image, and colours...
